Privacy Policy — AI Budget Tracker Chrome Extension

Short version: this extension makes zero network requests. Nothing you type, mine, or estimate ever leaves your machine.

What the extension does

AI Budget Tracker estimates the token count and dollar cost of a prompt before you send it to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, and (optionally) lets you retrain that estimate against your own past Claude Code session history so it gets more accurate for you specifically.

Data collection: none

The extension has no host_permissions and makes no network requests of any kind — not to our own servers, not to any analytics or advertising provider, not to any third party. You can verify this yourself: open chrome://extensions, inspect the extension's background/service-worker and content-script activity in Chrome DevTools, and confirm there is no outbound traffic.

Where your data actually lives

Prompt text you type into the popup is estimated locally in memory and is never saved, logged, or transmitted anywhere.
Your personalized model weights (if you use the optional "retrain on my session history" feature) are stored only in chrome.storage.local on your own machine — a browser storage area that Chrome does not sync to Google's servers or expose to any website.
Session transcripts you choose to mine for retraining are read directly from files you pick via a local folder picker, processed entirely in-browser, and never uploaded — the retrain happens on-device.

Permissions this extension requests, and why

storage / unlimitedStorage — to save your personalized model weights and settings locally, and to allow a reasonably large mined-session dataset to be stored on-device without hitting Chrome's default storage quota.
Content scripts on claude.ai, chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, and gemini.google.com — to show a small cost-estimate pill near the composer on those sites. The script reads the text you've typed into the composer locally to compute an estimate; it does not read any other page content, does not read your conversation history, and does not transmit anything it reads.

Third parties

None. No analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporters, no remote config. The extension does not know you exist.

Changes to this policy

If this ever changes (for example, if a future version adds an optional cloud-sync feature), this page will be updated first and the extension's Chrome Web Store listing will describe the change plainly.
